Advent is over, but some Christmas markets are still open in January. Our Christmas market highlights this year were G\u00f6dens Castle, the Sunday market at the Museum Harbour in Leer and, of course, the mulled wine stall at the small Christmas market in Varel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sunshine and freezing cold! The salt marsh trail runs from the holiday homes to Sehestedt lido, then along the coast and back through the meadows to the holiday home area. Even in winter, it\u2019s teeming with birds \u2013 though you\u2019re unlikely to come across many people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The grey seal population in the Wadden Sea has continued to grow in recent years. In 2024, over 12,000 animals were counted, almost 15% more than the previous year. And it seems that Germany\u2019s largest predator and its relatives, the harbour seals, are very much at home here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In summer, nature park tours to the seals\u2019 resting places are offered in the Jadebusen. Why not set off from Wilhelmshaven on an exciting seal safari?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A special service for cycling enthusiasts: our holiday home now has a repair station for bicycles and e-bikes \u2026 complete with a wall mount, air pump, tool kit, tyre levers and a repair kit. Should you ever have a problem with your bike whilst out and about, you\u2019re sure to find a solution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

How about a trip to Langwarder Groden?
At the northernmost tip of the Butjadingen peninsula, a short circular walk (approx. 5 km) leads through the salt marshes, partly along wooden planks. Here you can experience the constant ebb and flow of the tides and the coastal wildlife up close. A wonderful experience, not just when the sun is shining!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Jadebusen and the Wesermarsch are a birdwatcher\u2019s paradise. Seabirds, herons, storks, swallows, wild geese and many other species inhabit the coastal areas and the meadows and marshes of the peninsula. Some migrate south in winter and are currently returning. The area is also a wintering ground for migratory birds from the polar regions.
There are birdwatching stations and vantage points all around the Jadebusen \u2013 one of them right in Jade-Sehestedt at the Schwimmendes Moor. A must for any birdwatcher.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s cold, windy and rainy outside \u2013 just typical miserable November weather.

A new solar panel system was installed on the carport in October. The mini PV system (or balcony power plant) delivers up to 600 W of electrical power. Of course, that isn\u2019t enough to run the wallbox or the sauna independently. But we expect that our basic electricity requirements \u2013 i.e. for the fridge, TV, internet, lighting, etc. \u2013 will be roughly halved.
And all that\u2019s needed on top of that is 100% green electricity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
